ST. MARY’S GIFT SHOP: Come check out our new, permanent location, in the Bell Tower at the main entrance of the Church. We have a great selection of Catholic books and gifts. The shop is open after all Masses the first weekend of each month, during regular office hours (please come to office first) and by appointment, just give us a call. If we don’t have something you are looking for or you have an idea for us, please let us know, and we will try our best to get it.
CATECHETICAL CORRESPONDENCE COURSES: Register NOW for Family Faith Development in the Home! Programs available for children from Kindergarten through to High School. These programs are intended for children not currently receiving religious instruction, but are very beneficial to families wishing to engage in faith development as well. This course is a requirement for families wishing to have their child(ren) receive the sacrament of First Holy Communion at St. Mary’s. Contact the parish office for more information and for registration forms. (These programs are the same courses previously offered by the School Sisters of Notre Dame).
MARY’S GARDEN: On Sunday, May 30th, 2010, Fr. George gave the beautiful official blessing of Mary’s Garden. Please take a few moments out of your busy schedule to come sit, admire and pray in our small oasis away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We would again like to thank our supremely talented and dedicated volunteers, who’s efforts have made this wonderful sanctuary and helped enhance the beauty of St. Mary’s for years to come.
TIME FOR PRAYER AND CONTEMPLATION: Monday through Friday, in addition to daily Mass, the Church will remain open from 12:00 noon to 1:00 pm for quiet prayer and reflection. On Monday’s and Thursday’s the regular 12:10 pm Mass and Adoration schedules will prevail. We hope this will give parishioners and visitors an opportunity to spend some quiet time with Jesus.
Events in Our Area
AN HISTORIC EVENT: A small group of Anglicans has been meeting in the K - W area since 1996. This group had indicated their desire to be received into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church under the terms of Anglicanorum Coetibus, issued by Pope Benedict XVI, in 2009. For several months they have been preparing for this by prayer and a period of instruction based on the Catechism of the Catholic Church. On Sunday, January 1, 2012, the Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God, in the Cathedral of Christ the King, Bishop Crosby, OMI, received eleven men and women into the Full Communion of the Catholic Church by the Profession of Faith and the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist. The Mass was celebrated according to the Anglican Use – a fully-authorized Catholic liturgy that maintains distinctive elements of the Anglican heritage of language, music, tradition and spirituality. From this day on these newly-received will be known as the Sodality of St. Edmund, King and Martyr, and will continue as an Anglican Use community within the Diocese of Hamilton. As Catholics, the members of the Sodality of St. Edmund will be subject to the Code of Canon Law and will fully embrace the teaching of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. We welcome them into the Roman Catholic Church, pray for them, and invite them to pray for us.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL - CAMBRIDGE: has opened a modern, new thrift store in the south Galt area (Highland Plaza, 75 Dundas St. near Main). The store will serve the entire Waterloo region and has a good selection of used clothing, furniture and household items as well as appliances in working order. Donations of these items are welcome. Watch for announcements of bundle/green bag clothing weekends! Pickup of larger items can be arranged by calling 519-629-0103.
